„Weird Sounds“: Catchy Titel für eine neue Blog-Kategorie auf Wavebuzz. Oder? Ein Anfang ist gemacht. An diesem heutigen Sonntagabend überkommt mich nämlich so das dringende Bedürfnis, im Archiv (=Youtube) zu stöbern und etwas auszugraben, was sich mit ‚weird sounds‘ gut beschreiben lässt. Gesagt, getan. 

Gefunden wurde dabei obiger Track: „Hippopotamomus“ von Momus ab dessen gleichnamigem Album aus 1991.

Momus ist ein schottischer Musiker und Ex-Wired-Journalist mit Augenklappe (Auge funktioniert nicht mehr). Er lebt in Osaka und ist fasziniert von: „identity, Japan, Rome, the avant-garde, time travel and sex.“ Okay.  Was musikalischen Output betrifft scheinen wir es mit einem Workaholic zu tun zu haben (Beinahe 30 Alben seit 1986). Sein Cousin Justin Currie singt übrigens bei einer etwas bekannteren schottischen Bluespop-Band.

Für „Hippopotamomus“, einen Track mit betont lässigem Gesang und mildem Funk-Groove, erhielt auch ein gewisser Preacher Harry Powell Kredit (für „Vocals  [Hippo Baritone]“). Wer oder was Preacher Harry Powell genau sein soll, bleibt unklar. Herausfinden lässt sich immerhin, dass er oder es 1987 eine 7“-Single mit dem Titel „Devil In The Priest-Hole“ veröffentlicht hat. Das ist genug Obskurität für heute. Mahlzeit.
